Despite popular belief, you don't have to be in a hospital or nursing facility to have a staff of professionals take care of you - the is an alternative called home health care. Essentially, many of the same type of services offered at hospitals can be offered to you at your home through specialized agencies, and often it's more convenient and less expensive for you in the end.

The point of health care is to take care of you after you've had an illness or been injured. Why not go through this set of time in the comfort and safety of your own home if that option is at all available? You can regain you self of confidence and self-sufficiency, and you can go through that process where it makes the most sense, all at your own house. It should almost be the preferred way for everyone to go.

Home health care agencies provide staff that works with you on wound care, patient education, nutrition therapy, speech-language, therapy, injections and intravenous therapy. They monitor your serious illnesses and your unstable health status. Health aid staff help you with getting in and out of bed, using the bathroom and bathing, dressing, any other small tasks like that. Other things they can do is light housekeeping, laundry, shopping, and cooking if it's required.

Check local listings of agencies that can do this type of work for you, but be sure that your insurer matches up with their criteria. Some providers will only pay for agencies that have been certified through their own processes. All be careful when picking, that the agency you choose provides all of the services you require.

Now that you've hired an agency, what do they give you? They monitor your diet and exercise habits, and do regular checks on your heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, and temperature. They make sure your vitals are still vital! They also ensure that your home is set up safely for you, that you are using you medications properly, that you are physically and emotionally stable, and they make sure that they teach you how to take care of yourself once they are no longer needed for other things.

They'll also explain to you what your plan of care is. It's essentially a list of everything you need - what services, by what type of care professional, what equipment they need, how often they need to take care of what parts of your health, and what you should expect when the treatments are complete.

And be sure to ask yourself questions while you are under care. Are they treating you respectfully? Are they explaining why they are doing what they're doing? Are they continually suggesting ways to improve your treatment? Are they putting your mental and physical health first with regard to the service?

Now that you know a little more about home health care, you will have a better idea of that is the appropriate path for you.
